- Heidfeld is out-of-contract, so negotiations will be easier.
- He's a consistent points scorer.
- He has experience with KERS.
- Picking Heidfeld would not insult Kubica because Kubica knows he's better than Heidfeld. If Renault picked an upstart like Hulkenberg, Kubica may feel offended/threatened.

Note: If Heidfeld races two more full seasons and does not win, he will beat Andrea de Cesaris's record for the most starts without a win. Heidfeld has 172; de Cesaris had 208.
Here is a video I found of some of Heidfeld's passes. In looking at some of the clips, I noticed how many of the passes were in the rain. Of his 12 podium finishes, five of the races had rain or wet tracks.
