I spotted two celebrities in Monterey this year. I saw Bob Varsha, American F1 announcer, in Carmel. And while waiting for my turn behind the wheel of a Porsche Panamera GTS, this tall, lanky, punk rocker-type with dreads entered the Porsche display and was promptly greeted by the staff. I am 85% sure that's Magnus Walker. I had never heard of him until Peter S. brought him up recently. Apparently, he's quite a wizard with old 911s.

Magnus Walker and Porsche

You need to watch the Urban Outlaw short film if you already haven't. Just Google it. I'd say he/that video is a large part of why old 911's are so popular right now.
it's funny you should mention walker. i had written a response congratulating @edvin on his new 996 referring to magnus -- but then blogger made me log-in and lost the post. i gave up in disgust.
anyways, on a recent podcast, walker said that the best 'bang for the buck' these days in 911 world was a 996 gt3, which can be had for around ~$50k. i tend to agree. bona fide porsche race car performance, at a discount to both 993s and 997, due to some disagreements in aesthetic tastes. what do you guys think? i might opt for a 996 carrera s.
@augie: Sorry about the new commenting configuration. Some numbskull in India/Pakistan/Philippines was spamming my blog big time. So, for now, I have to approve each comment because it goes live on the blog.
Edvin and I were exchanging emails on the price of used 911s here and in Finland. You would not believe how expensive they are in Finland, and how relatively inexpensive they are here.
Just from a price and aesthetics and nostalgia point of view, I still prefer the 993. And gosh darn it, I'm going to own one eventually.
@Maxichamp oh, no worries at all. i thought i was losing my mind at first. sorry if i contributed to the spam with multiple posts.
yeah, the 993s are beautiful. i was at sonoma raceway yesterday for the indy event, and was following one on CA-37 to the track. tons of great cars there, including a pagani huayra on display at the gopro hospitality booth. drool.
@augie: Are you going up there for WTCC next month? Let me know if you want to meet up. I'll be there with a friend.
@maxichamp i hadn't realized it was going on. i'll look into it and let you know.
