China as a scapegoat in 2010 election

Whenever the economy takes a nosedive, people get frustrated and they direct their anger at the powerless, the other.  In this Great Recession, illegal immigrants (mostly Mexicans and Central Americans) were the first to be vilified.  Then, it was the insensitive Muslims who wanted to build a victory mosque on top of the charred remains of Ground Zero (uh, not quite).  Last week, we saw a spate of bullying of gays that led to suicides and at least one brutal attack in the Bronx.

Today, it is the People's Republic of China.  Let's hope this anger does not manifest itself into senseless violence against Asian-Americans.  These ads certainly don't help.  The first is from a Democrat, the second is from a Republican.
