I think you can still get the first generation in South Africa. A co-worker who lived there for a while says it's the weirdest thing because it has a "modern" dash but old school body.

It irritates me that a facelifted MKV is considered the MKVI.MKII was the peak for me.
My wife's uncle is stil chauffeured around in a Santana in Rio. He likes it because it's comfortable (reasonably), well adapted for the roads and doesn't attract too much attention.He's always had them and bought one of the last ones to be made when he learned they were going to stop making them in Brazil.
The newest one is remarkably similar to the MKVI, just a tad longer and uglier. A friend argued that the recent Porsche deal is starting to show.
