Eating the Globe: Egypt
RJO and I stopped by this food truck today for lunch. The blue Royal Egyptian Cuisine truck is usually parked near 2nd and Webster in Oakland. There were several folding tables shaded by umbrellas on the sidewalk for the patrons.
I ordered the kofta. It came with a bowl of spicy vegetable soup. The grilled beef was fresh and flavorful. The portions were so big, I couldn't finish my plate.
The owner is an eccentric man named Elmy Kader. He was raised in Alexandria and moved to France in the 1970s. When RJO finished his gyro, Kader gave him an extra (and free) bowl of food because he looked hungry.
Countries tried so far:
Africa: Egypt, Ethiopia, South Africa
Asia: Afghanistan, Burma, China, India, Israel, Japan, Lebanon, Malaysia, Philippines, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, Vietnam
Europe: Bosnia, France, Germany, Great Britain, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Sweden
North America: Mexico, USA
South America: Brazil, Chile
