Eating the Globe: Eritrea

Number 40 is Eritrea.

I thought that by now, I would run out of restaurants. But my research shows there are probably another 20 to 30 restaurants within an hour's drive of home. I found an Algerian place, a Cypriot place,....

Oakland has a large Eritrean community. Every parking lot attendant in town is Eritrean. We went to Cafe Dejena for breakfast.

This is a shahan ful: It's fava beans topped with green onions, feta cheese, tomatoes, green peppers, and red onions. All of this is topped with olive oil and cumin. It comes with two big, freshly baked, bread rolls. The dish is popular in Eritrea, Ethiopia, and the Sudan.

The coffee was tasty too.

Countries tried so far:
Africa: Egypt, Eritrea, Ethiopia, South Africa

Nepal, Pakistan, Philippines, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, Vietnam, Yemen
Europe: Bosnia, France, Germany, Great Britain, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Lithuainia, Sweden
North America: Canada, El Savador, Mexico, USA
