The Gold Dust Lounge lives...sort of
The venerated and questionably historic Union Square dive bar closed this May. Apparently, the bar's landlord wanted to convert the bar into the staircase for a new chain clothing store.
Well, the bar's owner's brother owns Lefty O'Doul's around the corner. And they've just set up a second bar at the back of Lefty's. It is staffed with bartenders from Gold Dust and it's got a picture of the old place on the liquor shelf. I guess it will do, for now.

Spent a pleasant Sunday morning in O'Doul's having corn beef hash and watching a UofM football game back in October. Definitely not something you could do around here on a Sunday.
Sad to see the Gold Dust close.
