George Lucas denied the connection between those big white cranes at the Port of Oakland and the AT-AT walkers. He also denied that the San Pablo/MacArthur trench exit inspired the surface of the Death Star.
But what about Hangar One at Moffett Field and Jabba the Hutt's sail barge?

Well, there is a canon history concerning the design for Jabba's sail barge.
It started like a repulsorlift-enabled normal sailboat and had its bottom flattened in order to cut the similarity with normal earthlike sea ships.
After that, the initial design of a single deck vehicle evolved into a larger one, with three decks, one on top of the other.
The final design comes from the extrusion of the first deck with more rounded lines - that fit the rest of the Star Wars vehicle designs.
This story is quite coherent and there are samples of early sail barge designs on the net, so I personally believe that the similarity is only coincidental.
