Volvo 140 series ad compendium (142, 144, 145)

Does anyone have any first hand experience with them?

Yes. My father owned a light blue late-model 144E in South Africa. With a 2 litre 90 kW engine, top-class modern spec interior. It was a fantastic, solid, quality car. I have not experienced such a car since, not even an old BMW 5-series was this solid. Nothing ever went wrong, just always 100% reliable.

Etienne.

My grandparents loved their 140s. They had several between 1970 and the end of their lives, including two wagons. My grandfather was Swedish, and was an electrical engineer, so he was always tinkering with them. He hated warning tones for seatbelts and the like.

The speedometer was the horizontal bar type, with an angled end. It was mesmerizing.

Lovely solid stolid things, those cars. I was a little kid, and I loved them.

@Walter: I've heard nothing but praises.

They are great for what they are. Very durable withstanding crazy amounts of teenage abuse in the case of my mom's '68, but not what you would call powerful. If you like 140s you should check out 160s. All of the great things of a 140 plus 2 additional cylinders.
