I just binge watched this 5 hour BBC documentary. It was aired in 1995 and summarizes the wars in Slovenia, Croatia, and Bosnia. The candid interviews with all of the key players are eye-opening. The historical grudges, strident nationalism, and flawed leadership (by all parties) led to the inevitable.
A couple of the readers here commented privately that the conflict was complicated and implied that we can't simply assign all the blame on one side. I think that's a fair statement. I've been given a link to another documentary, purporting to show the Serb side of the story. I'll report back after I've viewed it.
H/t to Chris D. for the suggestion.
