CarMax question

Does anyone here know what CarMax typically buys?

Friend's aunt has a 2003 Taurus with virtually no miles. Surface street errand runs its whole life. All the maintenance. She finally bought a newer car. Dealership offered her $500 for the Taurus. She said no thanks. 

My godson is turning 16 and I thought, perfect, I'll offer $500 and buy the Taurus. Friend says he wants to try to see what CarMax will offer for the Taurus. Will they even buy it? Will they offer any more than $500?

Iraq descends into the abyss

As ISIS destroys ancient Assyrian statues and archaeological sites, the Iraqi army, backed by Shia militias and Iranian officers, is trying to liberate Mosul. But the Shia liberators do not come with chocolates and roses. Instead, they are collectively punishing the Sunni residents, thus driving them back into the arms of ISIS. What a clusterfuck.

I was having coffee with a psychotherapist friend and asked him what goes through the minds of these terrorists. He compared their heinous acts to Nazis. The Nazis were humiliated after World War I and the Arabs were humiliated by the West. The two groups found another group, the Other, that they could pick on. Barbarity ensues.

F1 drivers in Formula E

I'm going to the Formula E race in Long Beach next month. I just peeked at the driver line-up. I knew there was a bunch of ex-F1 drivers, but I didn't realize there were so many. Out of the 20 drivers (2 drivers per team), HALF drove in F1. They are:

Motorweek's YouTube channel is killing it with its Retro Reviews.

These old Motorweek episodes take me back to a time when this and Car & Driver were the only ways I could learn about new cars.

Craig Singhaus was a fixture on the show. This Subaru clip shows him comically trying to get into the backseat. He's definitely nutty.

And I am definitely biased, but my high school years (1988-92) had the greatest selection of interesting cars, ever.
