With the current model they introduced badges by country depicting the local nickname: coccinelle (ladybug) for France, käfer (beetle) in Germany, maggiolino (cockchafer?) in Italy ... Funny as I think the original one was never sold officialy with these animal names and the new beetle was just "new beetle" worldwide Could the owner of the car you photographed have ordered his car or badge in French speaking Canada?

@Ed (BE): Thanks for the info. In Quebec, the Beetle is still called the Beetle.
ReplyDeletePossibly the owner has a friend with connections. I got an Opel badge for my Blazer that way a whiles back and it is still a conversation starter!
