Eating the Globe: Spain

Not good.

It has been a while since I've been thinking about this series, and I literally drew a blank about where to go next. Fortunately, there was a tapas place near the beach we visited. When the sign at the door says "Inspired By Spain", that's not good.

The sangria was watered down. I had better and more flavorful meatballs at IKEA. The paella tasted like it was made in a rice cooker.

And other than the ham on the very right, everything else on the platter was straight out of the Safeway deli.

Countries tried so far:
Africa: Egypt, Eritrea, Ethiopia, South Africa
Asia: Afghanistan, Burma, China, India, Indonesia, Israel, Japan, Kyrgyzstan, Laos, Lebanon, Malaysia,
Nepal, Pakistan, Philippines, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, Vietnam, Yemen
Europe: Bosnia, France, Germany, Great Britain, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Lithuainia, Spain, Sweden
North America: Canada, El Savador, Guatemala, Mexico, Trinidad & Tobago, USA
South America: Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Peru, Venezuela
Oceania: Tonga

  1. Hi Tamarlane;

    I live in Spain, and just seeing the photos makes me weep....you can hardly consider that a paella. A good paella would even have a bit of burnt rice, the rice would be darker, and in an even from in the paella pan (i.e without visible lumps of rice). And more liquid, if we go for an Andalucian paella, or more burnt and less liquid if its a Valencian paella (this one has rabbit meat, pork, peas...and the Andalucian one, chicken, red peppers, sea food..etc).

    The rest of stuff in the photos looks very standard. Hope you did not have to pay for that gruel.

    KInd regards, from downtown Granada, South Spain.

  2. @Dominic: I could have made the paella better. It was not good.
