$9,199 in damage to my Volvo

And that's just the exterior damage. Writing a piece for Hooniverse now.

All suggestions for a replacement are appreciated.

  1. Ouch. Did the tailgate door pull up the floor via the latch?

Maybe you could convert it into a ute?

Can't comment on a replacement sorry - not across the options you have there.

  2. @Lukas: Good theory. I tried opening the tailgate door. You can hear the lock/motor whir, but it wouldn't open.

  3. Oh crap, so sorry to see this. :( Hopefully no-one was hurt! And after all that searching for the car too! Well, I'm sure you'll find something cool to replace it with!

  4. Saw the Hooniverse post, but I like writing here better.

I rarely say this about cars because I believe that almost any car (no matter how bad the reputation) can be a good experience if you have the right attitude and keep a cool head; but stay away from the W8. I just can't see what about it could be good enough to justify all the misery that goes with it. :)

Obviously, there's only choice here. Century. If it's not doable, then whatever else as long as it isn't the W8.

  5. Jesus man. I'm sorry. That really sucks, it was a very cool car.

Try a Saab. Or a W124 wagon if you're feeling adventurous. Oooh--E36 wagon.

  6. Just to keep my comments completely unhelpful, I would like to suggest a JDM Honda Accord wagon (CM2)--one of the best front-wheel drive cars I've ever driven (and owned). If you don't want to deal with the steering wheel being on the wrong side (minor issue IMHO), the Acura TSX Touring (CW2) may be worth a look. CW2 is much more bloated and dull than CM2, but it is available in the US and with steering wheel on the correct side.

  7. I was going to suggest the Century, but thought you'd have ruled that out. Seeing as Hooniverse says it's an option, then it's a no-brainer: CENTURY

  8. @Charles: CM2 (TSX) never came to America in wagon form. I had a TSX sedan from 2004-11.

The CW2 does come as a wagon here, but it's only offered in automatic form. I read in the NY Times that Acura said if they sold a manual transmission iteration here, they'd sell less than 20 units.
