San Francisco Bay Area from the air

I had a great, albeit short, trip down to the Salton Sea. On the way down on Saturday morning, I took some shots of the Bay Area. With more lax rules regarding cell phone use immediately after takeoff, and clear skies, I had to take these. By the way, this was the first January in recorded history when there was no rain in San Francisco.

That's Alameda (The Island that Rust Forgot) in the foreground and Oakland in the background. Lake Merritt is in the middle and I lived right next to it from 1999 to 2005.

Here you see Mt. Diablo. I now live about halfway between Lake Merritt and Mt. Diablo. God-fearing Christians want to change the name to Mt. Reagan. Seriously.

Here is the defunct Alameda Naval Air Station, which was closed after the Cold War. You can also see the Port of Oakland, one of the busiest in the world.

Here is the new eastern span of the Bay Bridge, along with Treasure Island and Yerba Buena Island.

Downtown San Francisco.

Alcatraz at the bottom. Angel Island above it.

And finally, the Golden Gate Bridge and the Marin Headlands. A bit macabre, but after I die, I want my ashes dumped into the ocean out there.
