I thought it might be Washington D.C. plates, but it doesn't look like it (search "washington dc license plate 1951 for images). I'll keep poking around, maybe it was something in a territory or perhaps Korea during the war?
Ok, I'll stop in a minute, but in searching, I found a site where they will make replicas of pretty much any plate from anywhere, for example U.S. Forces in Okinawa - "http://www.licenseplates.tv/us_forces_in_okinawa_3894.html"

ReplyDeleteJust found it, US Forces in Germany post-war. Search for "US forces license plate 1951" and you'll find a bunch of examples.
