Gender gap in Japan

Recently, a female legislator was heckled with sexist remarks by a fellow legislator.


The 2013 Global Gender Gap index ranks Japan 105th globally (out of 136 countries). The ranking starts on page 16. Here are some selected rankings of interest:

  1. I had the same initial reaction about the Philippines until I remembered Corizon Aquino was the first female president in Asia.

    In any event, that they're right up there with the Scandinavians is nothing short of remarkable.

  2. I've heard the Japanese society is very discriminatory against women. But I don't think they care about what the world thinks about that, sadly.
