I showed the Mrs. a V50 yesterday at a used car lot and she likes it. I have given up on a turbo and a manual transmission. It is just too difficult to find. I think I am gonna just get an auto and the normally aspirated five-cylinder. The plan is for me to use it for a year or two, pass it to my wife (and get rid of her trusty Civic), and I'll get something else (probably a sports sedan).
It's a nice car. I almost went that route a few years back (funny how our quest for wagons have led us down similar paths as I strongly considered a C-Class wagon too) and came to the same conclusion: forget the manual and the turbo. In the end though, a smoking deal and 0% financing on a new 2010 VW Jetta wagon with a manual saw that one ending up on my driveway. Not as funky or cool as the V50, but manual in a wagon is pretty rare no matter what!
ReplyDeleteHave you considered an old Turbo Forester? They're not nearly as stylish as the Volvo, but really commodious and fantastic to drive. STI quick too.
ReplyDelete@Ed: My neighbor has a newish Jetta with the manual. It's pretty nice. In fact, I prefer it over the Passat wagon. But I'm on a VW break right now.
ReplyDelete@Alan: My friend had the Forester turbo with the big ass hood scoop. It's really fast, but not my cup of tea.
