My obsession today: 1988-91 Buick Reatta

I like the exterior. The front reminds me of a 1980s Mazda Cosmo and the rear a Maserati Mistral. The interior is sort of nice for a GM (okay, not really) and that touchscreen is out of this world (go to about the 5:30 mark of the bottom-most video).

  1. As a European who's never seen one IRL I like it (and other 80's-90's fwd yanks in general) more than is probably healthy. I've heard plenty of warnings about Buick's lack of quality in that era, but it can't be that bad, can it?

I've always been a fan of American cars from this era, but the more I read about them, the more disappointed I am. They were cheaply engineered, and launched so customers did the final testing...

Still, the Reatta wasn't bad, according to the link above. And is a pretty thing. What about the convertible?

  3. I've driven a friend's convertible and the exterior is the best thing about it. There are exposed screw heads holding down trim, the body's as floppy as you'd expect a convertible to be and the 3800 drones and moans as it drags the car around. Nicer to be seen in than to actually be in.
