I swear our car shopping list is identical. A couple months ago I was considering a 1991 190E Sportline with the 2.6L inline-six and wait for it...a manual. It only had 115K on it and drove beautifully. That is one of the smoothest and creamiest inline-sixes ever. It was at the local Toyota dealer of all places.
Funny color though...it was German taxi beige even though it was a Sportline. If I got it I was going to get a personalized plate "ÜBERTXI".
@Ed: I don't pretend to know anything about 190Es. I pointed this one out because it seems to be in pretty good shape. I may go down to the consignment lot and check it out tomorrow.
I've been casually shopping for over a year...but funds always hold me back! Dealer wanted $4000 for it. It wasn't a terrible price, but I just didn't have $4000 for a third car burning a hole in my pocket.
How difficult is it to convert to manual?
ReplyDeleteI was looking at a basket-case Cosworth 190E on craigslist yesterday.

@F1O: I have no idea. I didn't even know it came with manuals here in America.
ReplyDeleteIf the Cosworth has salvage title and came from California, I may know what happened to it.

ReplyDeleteHow come you didn't buy it?
Ad doesn't say anything about the title. Here's the link for it:

ReplyDeleteMoney...always the issue!
My wife has an '89 190E 2.6, it has nearly 260k miles. They really are over engineered great cars.
