Here is a photo of the Phaeton being smogged this afternoon. Before a car passes hands in California, the seller is responsible for the car passing a smog inspection. It passed, of course. Can you believe that is an eight year old car? It's immaculate!
I want to thank you guys for all the interesting car suggestions. Reading them gave me numerous chuckles. You have literally saved me from clinical depression. I will think over everything with care. On the way to check out an LFA at a local dealership (for fun, of course), I saw a little grey Honda Insight. And I really want one!
Such a shame that there is no presence of Citroen, Peugeot or Renault in the USA. Lots of choices there... if only.
ReplyDeleteWhat about a complete change: a BMW X5 3.0 litre turbo diesel? A car mag road-tester friend says it's his favourite road weapon, smokes lots of supposedly sportier cars, especially up winding hill roads. And it likes to go touring too.
@Ozmac: I would love a newer Citroen like yours. X5 is a no-no. The #1 reason I got rid of the Phaeton is because I got the stink eye from my rabid environmentalist wife for the last 16 months because the tank was a gas guzzler. Nothing inefficient or even the appearance of inefficiency.
ReplyDeleteHere's what to do...
ReplyDeleteBuy whatever you like anyway, but stick a shiny 'Hybrid' badge from a Honda or whatever on the back.
Is she the type who will actually look under the hood and figure out that it's not a hybrid?
I came in here to ask why you are selling, but I guess the second comment answered my question.
ReplyDeleteHow about a Peugeot 405 Mi16, or alternatively, its Italian sibling, the Alfa Romeo 164?
ReplyDelete(assuming the gas mileage from the sonorous Alfa V6 passes muster)
What about Mitsubishi Lancer Evo VIII/IX?
ReplyDeleteOr Lnacer X Ralliart?
You will be shocked by cheap interior. Specially compared to Phaeton.
Also not sure how professional these cars seem to you.
But you can always tell your wife that you drive modest compact Japanese sedan.
Plus lots and lots of joy behind the steering wheel and relative reliability
@sanchez: Nothing with big spoilers. In fact, no spoilers. :)
ReplyDeleteWhat could be more professional than a 911 (just ditch the chrome rims)? http://sfbay.craigslist.org/eby/cto/3676901116.html
ReplyDeletePersonally, I wouldn't be able to resist a E46 M3 at your prices.. http://sfbay.craigslist.org/eby/cto/3666614992.html
A friend got a great deal on a SAAB 9-3 convertible the first time SAAB went under a few years back and he's had a great experience with it-reliable fund, great on the highway and good mpgs (with the turbo 4 at least).
ReplyDeleteAnd as you know, women love convertibles.
