The New York Times had a fascinating article about possible new states. The article is here. It postulates the following:
- Azawad declares independence from Mali.
- Belgium splits in two between French and Flemish speakers.
- DR Congo splinters into little pieces.
- Somalia divided into three.
- Syria splits into Alawite state, Druse state, Damascus, and Aleppo.
- All of the Arabian peninsula becomes one.
- Kurdistan!
- Azerbaijan takes northern Iran.
- Pashtunistan and Baluchistan.
- China takes Russian Far East.
- One Korea.
What about Greenland?

China taking a part of Russia? Not a chance in hell! That would need a nuclear war.
ReplyDeleteAzerbaijan securing part of Iran doesnt sound likely either. Sadly, one Korea isn' on my list either.
I vote for Azawad. I've heard something about Catalonia as well, but I dont think it will happen. Greenland sounds more plausible.
@Viva: I agree. Many of the suggestions sound far-fetched.
