I visited the McLaren dealership in Palo Alto today. It was pretty neat. Surprisingly, only one of the vehicles in the showroom is for sale. The white one, which is used, can be purchased. Everything else is off limits. A thorough write-up will be posted on Hooniverse. The original F1, as you can see, is gorgeous.
It must've been a near-religious experience to be that close to an F1. Interesting color combination, not sure if I like it.
ReplyDeleteI wonder how much you'd have to throw at them to convince them to sell it?
@Shamwow: $1.25 mil?
ReplyDeleteI actually love that color combination. It might have to do with the fact that in college, my only model car was a 1/18 red McLaren F1. Also, I dig beige/cream interiors, other than the fact that they're prone to scuff marks.
I want to read that book you have. Ebay has new ones for $800!!!
I don't outright dislike it, it's one of those "not sure if want" type situations.
ReplyDeleteI'd happily lend it to you, but my brother-in-law is reading it right now. Next time.
@Alan - This McLaren F1 belongs to the owner of the dealership and is one of the 'crown jewels' of his very amazing car collection. At this point there is no amount of money that would separate it from him and interested parties would be much better off looking for another one to buy.
ReplyDelete@kashgar216 - F1s have not traded for $1.25M for nearly a decade. In fact in the past 10 years they have seen their selling prices appreciate dramatically to nearly 3x that figure. In 2008 a rather special one sold at auction in London for just over $4M and in 2010 another one changed hands at auction in Monterey for $3.575M. There have been other non-public sales that have exceeded those figures as well.
