Obama (D) is on the left, Romney (R) is on the right.
With Perry being more of a disappointment than Fred Thompson in 2008, and with Cain winning nothing but meaningless polls, Romney is almost certainly going to win the Republican nomination and run against Obama next year. Let's look at the two.
As the Republican governor of Massachusetts (home to Ted Kennedy and Michael Dukakis), Romney was more to the left than some conservative Democrats in Red States. As governor, he closed corporate tax loopholes, brought near-universal health care coverage to the state's citizens, and supported (albeit reluctantly) civil unions.
Once he became President, Obama disappointed his liberal base. Other than the withdrawal of troops from Iraq, his Middle East policies and civil liberties record vis-a-vis the War on Terror mirror Bush's. He extended the Bush era tax cuts (albeit in exchange for an extension of unemployment benefits). His federal health care plan is modeled after Romney's plan. And don't forget the millions of dollars in campaign contributions Obama received from Wall Street donors.
So who are you going to vote for, Kodos or Kang?
Homer: America, take a good look at your beloved candidates. They’re nothing but hideous space reptiles!
Kodos: It’s true, we are aliens. But what are you going to do about it? It’s a two-party system; you have to vote for one of us.
Man 1: He’s right, this is a two-party system.
Man 2: Well, I believe I’ll vote for a third-party candidate.
Kang: Go ahead, throw your vote away.
It's still Obama for me... Another 4-8 years of a Republican President rubberstamping a Republican Congress? I already learned that lesson.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great analogy. Vote Ron Paul! His delegates are stacking up. It's time to wake up and stop making the same mistakes.
