Reagan library airplane


If you're watching the debate tonight, you'll no doubt notice the huge plane in the room.

That Boeing 707 served as Air Force One during the Nixon (2nd term), Ford, Carter, Bush I, Clinton, and Bush II administrations.  In 1990, it became the backup plane when the 747 was brought into service.

This 707 was retired in 2001 and flown to Southern California.  It was then disassembled and shipped to the Reagan library, where it was restored and re-assembled.  It sits 25 feet above ground level, on pedestals.
