If our Mexican readers have any information on these cars, please share with us.
I got all of the info below from Wikipedia.
BMW 760Li-P:
Apparently, BMW is building the F01/F02 7-series in its Toluca factory in Mexico. That means the Federal Police, the military police, the federal government, and some municipal police (like Cancun) are using the 760Li-P (P for police) as cruisers and transporters. The P package comes with rifle mounts, run flat tires, an upgraded 590 horsepower V12, and armoring that can withstand an RPG-7 attack. Hijole!
Mercedes S600P
Similarly, Merc W221 S-class is manufactured in Santiago Tianguistenco in Mexico. The P package comes with the twin turbocharged V12 from the S65 AMG, run flats, gun mount, and B6/B7 armoring. A few S600Ps were exported to the Guangzhou PD in China. Ay caramba!
That "760Li-P" picture looks a lot like an F10 5-series to me... Was there also a 760Li-P there as well or has this picture been misidentified?
ReplyDelete@Peter: It looked a little small to me too. But the Wiki article did label it as a 760Li-P. So the Mexicans are using 5 and 7 series?
ReplyDeleteBTW: I enjoyed the recent auto show post on your blog.
Hmm, they must be. I guess the extra government funding intended to fight the drug wars had to go somewhere.
ReplyDeleteAnd are you referring to the Jason Castriota videos? Either way, I’m glad you enjoyed it.
Those 760s are right-hand drive cars, mexican cars are lhd, so, they aren't mexican police cars. Here in mexico, the price tag for a civilian 7 series (in-line six engine) starts in 97000 USD, and that price is more than twice the price tag for a fully equipped dodge charger SE.
ReplyDeleteI doubt that mexican police departments are driving BMW and Mercedes cars.
Those are vehicles of the Royal Thai Police.
ReplyDeleteOnly certain high level agencies use those vehicle such as la pgr, equivalent to the fbi
