Well, there is that elephant in the room. I really can't stand the new format. Haven't posted a comment there since the change. You can still read/view it in the classic style by adding "ca." in front of jalopnik. But it's just too tedious. Apparently, I'm not alone. By the way, the uber-commentariat at Gawker have fled en masse and set this up.
Here are Jalopnik's Sitemeter stats:
Holy crap! That's a huge drop. I wonder what it'll take to get all those readers back or if they can get them back at all.
ReplyDeleteI remember reading all the comments complaining about the new format and the response was usually a standard "get used to it, we're not going back". Way to listen to your audience...
@F1O: Their response to our feedback has been very disappointing. I used to spend A LOT of time there.
ReplyDelete"Home of the world's most self-aggrandizing commentors" ha!
ReplyDeleteInteresting link here suggests that the drop off can be explained by sitereader not being able to register visits properly due to the new layout...

I'm a starred commentor on Jalopnik, and have also rarely commented since the change. I'm honestly not resistant to change, but the site is now un-navigatable and responses to comments virtually impossible to track or view - in short it's a step backwards and a failure on all fronts.
I completely agree on the change in Jalopnik's format. It used to be one of the first destinations that I would peruse daily, but the new format is counter intuitive.I gave up trying to post any comment. I still have the site in my favorites hoping that they wise up and switch back. I also agree with "Alan". I am not resistant to change, but do not understand a change from an easily navigatable site to an unruly mess.
