Why Heidfeld is likely to get Kubica's seat

Today, pundits, bloggers, and tweeters overwhelmingly predicted that Heidfeld will get the nod.  But as Mubarak's rambling "resignation" speech today teaches us, nothing is certain.  I came across an interview with BBC's Ted Kravitz, who made several interesting points about why Heidfeld is favored over others:

• Heidfeld is out-of-contract, so negotiations will be easier.
• He's a consistent points scorer.
• He has experience with KERS.
• Picking Heidfeld would not insult Kubica because Kubica knows he's better than Heidfeld.  If Renault picked an upstart like Hulkenberg, Kubica may feel offended/threatened.

Note: If Heidfeld races two more full seasons and does not win, he will beat Andrea de Cesaris's record for the most starts without a win.  Heidfeld has 172; de Cesaris had 208.

Here is a video I found of some of Heidfeld's passes.  In looking at some of the clips, I noticed how many of the passes were in the rain.  Of his 12 podium finishes, five of the races had rain or wet tracks.
