Carspotting (58): Datsun 510

I spotted this a block away from the Earthroamer (see previous post).  I like this 510 because it has not been modified and seems like a daily driver with just one owner since new.  Can someone tell me what B&W Full Automatic means?  I assume it's some kind of automatic transmission.

B&W?

  1. I cannot help you on what B&W transmission means, but I love seeing an old Datsun 510. I learned to drive a stick shift on that car and would love to find an unrusted one someday.

  2. @MattC: Edvin thinks it means Borg Warner. I meant to say B-W, not B & W.

I heart the original hubs and whitewall tires.

  3. Definitely means Borg-Warner which is a transmission company (among other things)

  4. The Datsun 1600 in Australia only came as a 4-door. They won rally championships and were good race cars. They are covetted by kids all over the place and silly old buggers like me who rallied them. So a 2-door is the Holy Grail and there are a number of youngsters who have bought them in US and converted them to RHD.

  5. @John L: Yeah. As I was taking the pictures, I wondered how many people per week approach the owner and ask if it is for sale.

  6. Yes, I wonder. My partner, Jane, has a very early 240Z which could do with a coat of paint. It's often being photographed from moving cars and she regularly receives offers for it when she's out and about.
