I like the Willys Interlagos, which is the Brazilian Renault-Alpine A108. The VW SP2 which is a car conceived and built entirely by VW of Brazil without European intervention. The Chevrolet Opala SS or Diplomata, which was based on the Opel Reckord. It's probably the all time most popular Brazilian car.
Between the late 60's and late 80's there were a lot of "mom and pop" car manufacturers because of the military government's restrictions on imports. So there were a lot of interesting cars in Brazil during this time. Some of my favorites: Bianco S. SM 4.1 (Santa Matilde), which used the 4.1L 6 cyl Chevrolet engine from the Opala. The DKW and later VW Puma. The early DKWs are much more atractive. And if you want something more contemporary, there's the Lobini H1 which currently sells in Brazil using the Golf GTI engine, transmission and other tidbits.
It's an FNM 2150. It was built in Brazil by FNM (Fábrica Nacional de Motores - National Motors Factory) under license from Alfa Romeo.

Obrigado. That's a gem. What would you say are your favorite Brazilian cars that outsiders have no clue about?
ReplyDeleteWow that's a loaded question!
